Modern technology has shaped our thinking in many ways. In audiovisual technology, the pursuit of a clear signal-noise ratio is the incentive of any development. The exclusion of noise produced by the medium invites us to believe that there is no medium. But a signal never exists on its own, it does not drift in a vacuum. Every form of signal is grounded in a physical reality. It exists in a place, in our lifetime, and if we trace the signal back to its material source, we can open a conversation.

My aim is, as Petra Lange-Berndt challenges us, to be complicit with the material.
